The M-Town Office is a modern high-rise located in Shanghai, China. With its parallel long windows and streamlined shapes, it stands out from its neighboring buildings, exuding an avant-garde and futuristic feel. This unique spatial sensation continues in the design of the lobby, which serves as an extension of the building itself into the public space within, enhancing the overall impact on viewers.
The lobby ceiling is a standout feature, divided into three levels and adorned with L-shaped planes that create continuous curves. These curves resemble layer-upon-layer of ribbons or winding lines of athletic tracks. Starting from one side of the lobby, they twist and extend, finally gathering diagonally on the other side of the L shapes, forming a winding division resembling a boomerang. This design element cleverly connects the dots of silk screen printing on the outer edge and the brown corrugated aluminum sheets on the inner edge, creating a vibrant contrast. The curvy lines on the floor covering further enhance this contrast, breaking the stillness and seriousness commonly found in traditional office buildings.
The interior design of the M-Town Office is characterized by a combination of white and beige tones, along with stone materials, stainless steel, and aluminum plates. This unique blend of materials creates a bright and high-tech office setting, exuding simplicity and consistency. The use of the purest colors and materials contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the space.
The design of the M-Town Office presented several challenges. The division design of the ceiling and floor required careful consideration to ensure coherence and continuity. To add variety to the usually monotonous walls, forms that go diagonally and turn upward were incorporated into the facade. This created a dialogue among the ceiling, floor, and walls, shaping an architectural lexicon of evenness and continuity. The interior design and the building itself echo each other through the use of streamline and curvy shapes. This enriched and diverse design aims to provide users with a pleasant and cheerful working space, bursting with spiritual vitality.
The M-Town Office design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The M-Town Office design showcases strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
